Purpose: Prepare infrastructure as a part of our continuing upgrades to the ImageSilo systems.

Customer Impact: ImageSilo engineers will be physically reorganizing servers in order to remove decommissioned systems and make room for newly commissioned systems. This will require that some of the domain controllers be temporarily shut down during their move (while other domain controllers remain online). Systems that are authenticating to the ones being moved may experience a delay while they wait for the timeout to occur before authenticating to a different domain controller. That delay may result in three or four periods of up to 60 seconds where ImageSilo responds slowly. Additionally, ImageSilo engineers will be expanding the Active Directory Schema used by ImageSilo. This process is not expected to have any customer impact.

Engineers simply want to ensure that, if required, both load balancers are still working correctly. As load balancer failover happens nearly instantaneously, no customer impact is expected.

Purpose: Perform previously scheduled (Apr. 9, 2010) network switching firmware upgrades and expansions as well as move and reorganize servers within racks. These changes were not performed during the previous maintenance due to a switch vendor bug identified by ImageSilo engineers prior to that process. In order to address the bug in a manner that would be minimally disruptive, engineers have devised a new course of action.

Customer Impact: ImageSilo engineers will be performing network switch firmware updates and expanding the network infrastructure. The new firmware upgrade process will require swapping of switches (due to a vendor bug). Due to the redundant nature of the switching architecture, it is expected that this will cause a few brief periods of minor packet loss and latency. Finally, ImageSilo engineers will be completing the server reorganization within racks to accomodate additional new servers in order to provide further redundancy and performance. During the move, the database infrastructure will be manually transitioned to redundant partners. This transition is expected to interupt ImageSilo for approximately two minutes.

Purpose: Make system modifications to the ImageSilo storage systems, update firmware on network switching infrastructure, and move/reorganize servers withing racks.

Customer Impact: ImageSilo engineers will be making modifications to the ImageSilo storage systems relating to the software upgrade that was performed on March 26, 2010. These changes are not expected to cause any customer impact. Also, ImageSilo engineers will be performing a firmware update and expanding the network switching infrastructure. The firmware update will require a reboot of the entire switching infrastructure (including all redundant elements, simultaneously). As such, it is expected that ImageSilo will be inaccessible for three to five minutes. Finally, ImageSilo engineers will be moving/reorganizing servers within racks to accomodate new servers. In the coming months, nearly all of the servers within ImageSilo will be replaced with new servers to provide further redundancy and performance. During the move, the database infrastructure will be manually transitioned to redundant partners. This transition is expected to interupt ImageSilo for approximately two minutes.

Purpose: Upgrade software and firmware on storage systems and make network topology changes.

Customer Impact: ImageSilo engineers will be updating software and firmware on the core ImageSilo storage systems. These updates will provide better performance, backup processing, and redundancy. It is expected that the firmware updates will make storage inaccessible for a period of time lasting between two and ten minutes.  Additionally, it is expected that the storage system software updates will make storage inaccessible for an accumulative period of time of less than ten minutes (due to multiple failovers and failbacks). The network topology changes are not expected to cause any customer impact.
